Parent of Admitted Cornell Student

Ann and Dave Consulting is amazing! Ann consistently gave great advice from the day we first engaged with her during our son’s sophomore year, all the way through filing applications. Ann has a gift for connecting with her students and not just making clear what’s next on their task list, but inspiring and encouraging them to think about what it takes mentally to keep moving things forward. For our son, Ann’ and Dave's guidance was instrumental in prompting him to start his own student-run non-profit which eventually earned him an award from a California State Senator. Ann is backed by a hard-working group of assistant counselors who during essay “season”, held weekly meetings to work on essay brainstorming and provide feedback on drafts. Ann and team also held webinars on various topics such as how to choose extracurriculars, SAT planning, and how to draft a compelling essay. Also, the process of essay writing began in our son’s sophomore year with summer internship applications which were good practice. In addition, Ann’s team maintained an on-line personalized dashboard for our son, tracking everything from course selection, to college lists and key deadlines. Dave helped to streamline the application review process, which in our son’s case was complicated by multiple transcripts and home-schooling during Covid. After applications were done, Dave held mock interviews with our son which prepared him well. Our son was admitted ED to a prestigious engineering school. Much of the credit goes to our son for his hard work and his strong academic record. However, with today’s competitive college admissions, we’ve seen how for many students hard work and strong academics aren’t enough to secure a spot at a selective school. We are grateful for Ann and team’s consistent encouragement and guidance which we believe helped our son to create a more varied academic portfolio, which we feel was a major factor in helping him get admitted to the school of his choice.
